I am huge snacker. In fact, sometimes I prefer to snack all day rather than eat full meals. As you can imagine, this can be problematic. Especially if I were to choose snacks that are high in calories and low in nutrients.
In my opinion, it is a waste to choose snacks that are overly processed with mile-long ingredient lists. Instead, I prefer my snacks to have a pronounceable list of ingredients and some sort of nutrition to offer. Whether it is protein, healthy fats, or carbohydrates – something is better than nothing.
Finally, I much prefer snacks that are dippable. I like to dip crackers in cottage cheese, veggies in hummus, and chips in salsa. It just makes snacking that much more enjoyable.
I was recently given the opportunity to try a new-to-me snack that sounded too good to be true.
[very generous sample package from the lovely Lexie at Beanitos]
Beanitos are chips made primarily of beans (yes, beans!) that are loaded with non-GMO vegetable fiber, omega 3’s, and 4 grams of complete protein.
They are also gluten free, low glycemic, and high fiber. AND they’re chips, which means they are perfect little dippers.
Basically, they are a very smart snack choice. Want to see a little comparison to some other popular snack foods?
Beanitos are also verified through the Non-GMO project which means that, as a company, they make certain to minimize the introduction of genetically modified ingredients into their products. Personally, I love that.
So they are nutritious, but are they delicious?
Yes!
Lexie from Beanitos graciously sent me all of their flavors to try out. I received a box full of their NEW single-serve packages. Let’s just say that this made my snack-loving self very very happy.
Not only are they a great snack, but they are perfect to grab on-the-go.
An easy-to-grab bag of crunchy chips with 175 Calories, 6 g Protein, and 6 g Fiber? Yes, please!
Upon opening the box, I immediately tore into a package of the black bean chips.
What can I say? I am a sucker for black beans and these did not disappoint. My favorite way to enjoy them? As a vehicle for cottage cheese. Don’t knock it until you try it.
Next up? Chipotle BBQ black bean.
These were just as delicious as they sound. My favorite way to enjoy them? As is! The flavors are great all on their own.
In addition to black bean chips, Beanitos also makes pinto bean chips.
The plain pinto bean and flax chips are wonderful dipped in mango salsa.
The final flavor, cheddar cheese pinto bean chips, were claimed by my son.
I don’t blame him. These are pretty much a mother’s dream. Chips that are full of fiber and protein? Dig in!
So chips that are delicious and nutritious? Sounds amazing, right? Well, there is more.
These are free of corn, wheat, soy, and potato! Why no corn?
I’ll give it to you just as they explained it [straight from the Beanitos website]: “You see, corn is cheap, and it's used to make ethanol gas for cars, to get cows fat, and as an ingredient in over 4000 products in your local supermarket! It's not hard to understand then, why major university research indicates that the typical Western diet consists of over 60% corn! Hmmm, let's break that down: Cows are fed corn to get fat and our diets are mostly corn; so could it be that cutting back on corn and eating Beanitos might help you manage your waistline? We think so.”
I think so too.
So want to try some Beanitos for yourself? Here’s your chance!
